Snow Leopard ACEO - WIP 2

I managed to spend a little time on this last night and here's where I'm at:

Need to sort out the pupils of those eyes and somehow get a sharper point to my pencils for the details but pleased with how this is going.

inspiration needed

No art to speak of is being produced. I am simply plodding through my crochet blanket feeling extremely uninspired. I think it's the cold I can't shift, it's making me very sluggish and miserable. I've had it for about 8 weeks now and counting. Ugh.

Baby Blanket - now in progress! WIP1

It's looking pretty!

About 10 rows done so far. It's taking a while but hopefully it will be finished before the baby comes!

Another baby blanket to be made

This time for my own bump!!

Look at this pretty pretty yarn I got. It's a very light turquoise and is incredibly soft. I hope it works up well.

Juicy - Finished

I spent a little time finishing the September coloured pencil challenge from WetCanvas. I'm not completely happy with the shadow of the cherry, or the consistency of the wood, but I'd like to say it's done.

Attempt Three

And it's finally beginning to look like her! Long way to go though.

Second attempt

is this any better? I know the mouth is wrong but the nose also looks completely out of place...

Wait, I've made the left eye bigger and moved the mouth. Still doesn't look like her but getting there slowly...

One day I will be able to do realistic portraits...

...when they actually look like who they're supposed to be. If I practice more then it will happen???

Cherry - WIP 1

As an attempt to keep the CP skills up, I have decided to have a go at the WetCanvas Coloured Pencil Monthly Challenge for September.

The reference is of a particularly juicy cherry and I just love cherries so I had to draw it. Not quite finished but I'm very pleased with the shininess of the cherry skin so far.

So here's my CP lorikeet on the wall at the Mill in Walthamstow. I am so proud that it was chosen for exhibition. Please pop in and have a look to support the local artists if you're in the area.

Alsatian - WIP 2

Yeah, so, a dog a week hasn't happened. Yet. And this pupster is slow going. I think it's because I'm doing it at work during my lunch hours and I can't relax or get into it properly. I'll just keep going and see what happens.

Alsatian - WIP 1

I'm thinking of starting an ongoing project - A Dog is a Man's Best Friend - where I draw one dog a week. This is, however, quite ambitious, and the likelihood is that I won't be able to pull it off.

Anyway, here's the start of a drawing of a beautiful Alsatian (or German Shepherd).

Lorikeet - FINISHED

I am so so pleased to have this finished in time for submission to the local gallery! I can only hope and pray that they decide the exhibit it.

Gifted - The Mill at E17 Art Exhibition

So I have decided to take the plunge and get drawing again by producing a piece of work for the "Gifted" Exhibition at a local gallery. It's an excellent opportunity, as the gallery shows work by both established and unknown artists, and you can even put your work up for sale!

Now, I'm not saying that I will get into the exhibition, but it's well worth a try, and hopefully I will be able to get a piece done in time.

This is my chosen subject - a jaunty little rainbow lorikeet (taken from WetCanvas reference library).

I plan to do this in Prismas on a decent heavyweight paper, about 8x10 size. Wish me luck!!

Sparrow - WIP 3

Remember back in December when I started the drawing of a sparrow for my Dad's Christmas present? Well, as you may have guessed, I never finished it. Nowhere near!
But now I am determined to get it done in time for his birthday, which is in September. Hopefully plenty of time!
I did a little last night, and here is the latest photo. I don't know why I'm struggling so much with this. Maybe it's because it's on coloured paper and the paper is almost the same colour as the bird?

a close up

English Mastiff - Sketch WIP

Just a little something to try and get back into drawing. The reference photo is so eautiful but the shadows are so dark I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on with his right eye! I have no idea how to draw it!!!

Baby Blanket Finally Finished!!

I am so very pleased with how this came out! After all the hard work and hours that went into it, I think it's really pretty, practical and cuddly. I can't wait to take it to my brother-in-law and his girlfriend as a present in a few month's time. Let's hope their baby-to-be enjoys it!

The pattern for the blanket is here, and the ruffle edging was a simple:
Row 1 - sc in each st
Row 2 - 2dc in each sc
Row 3 - dc in each dc

The Drawing Lab - Exercise 1

Last week I bought this awesome book by Carla Sonheim, The Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists.
In it are 52 detailed exercises to inspire you to create a variety of different subjects in different media.

At the weekend I did Exercise 1 - Draw Cats in Bed. Essentially I had to draw about 30 cats from my imagination in pen, then pick two to render in different ways.

Here are my load of cats:

I picked two that I liked the best (quite difficult in a selection that bad!) and did them in Prismacolor pencils and watercolours. I have never used watercolours before and I had NO IDEA what I was doing. It shows! (They are like kids' drawings!)

A fun way to put together a couple of different drawings. I really enjoyed it and look forward to doing more from this book!!

So out of practice!

So after my mini moan about not having time to draw, I forced myself to pick up pencil and paper at the weekend, and this slightly scary, and not at all accurate, sketch was produced. Lemurs are supposed to be cute!!

I think I really need to get drawing more regularly to try and improve my skills. Maybe one evening a week? I should've kept up with the scavenger hunts...

I miss drawing!

With all this work on my crochet blanket and making creatures for my new Etsy venture I never have any time for drawing. I miss it so much! I need to make some time to at least do some sketching before I forget how to do anything.... :(

Baby Blanket still going!!

This is taking forever! But at least it's beginning to take shape now. I reckon I'm about a third of the way through. It's already used up over 1 skein! I think it's pretty though. I really hope mum and dad to be like it!!

Bunny Blanket Finished!

I have finaly finished this for my friends Pippa and Jono's baby to be!
It's not quite as cute as I was hoping and if I could do it again I would in cotton as the pattern suggested, not acrylic like I did. But I'll be sending it to them as soon as baby comes out into the world and hopefully he/she will enjoy snuggling it! :D

Going much better now. Let's hope it continues to get better...

Testing Pattern for Baby Blanket

Just a quick post to say I've had a little trial of the baby blanket pattern I am going to embark on for my brother-in-law's bump (well, not his bump, his girlfriend's!), and I'm pleased I can understand it and I think it's going to be very pretty when I use the proper yarn.

The pattern can be found HERE

Exciting Times!

I heard the wonderful news that my brother-in-law and his girlfriend are expecting a baby!!

They had their 12 week scan on Monday, and the mother to be is well.

I have used this as an excuse to buy a load of lovely soft baby yarn and make them something nice with it. Maybe a blanket. Maybe a nice soft toy.

Also, a uni friend is due in May so I might try to whip something up for her as well!

Babies everywhere!!!

(my beautiful new stash!)

Needs a little black tip of his tail but nearly finished!

Great Craft/Art Supplier

I buy a lot from these guys - all my felt for a start as they do a nice wool/acrylic mix which is a lot softer and nicer to work with than 100% acrylic.
They are quite reasonable too, and they ship ever so quickly!!

Experimenting with Plushies

It is my aim, ambition, dream and goal to get my Etsy shop finally up and running by the end of the year. That means I have another 9 months to design and create at least 80 creatures and brooches to put up for sale.

Yesterday I was experimenting with making a felt animals that can stand. Usually I just focus on flat 2D creatures, but I thought it might be better to get some variety.

So here and two creations I made this week. (Bad photos sorry)

#1 - Betty Aardvark. Ready for sale and very pretty but she can't stand.

#2 - Margaret Hoss. The experiment and a little rough around the edges. Will be remade now I know what I'm doing.
