Budgie Mini Plush

Here's a cute little fella for you.

Felt and stitching.

Sparrow - WIP 2

A little bit done on this. Really struggling with the colour of the legs and feet. For some reason I went purple crazy and now he looks a little psychedelic in the foot department!
Also don't like the beak so far. Hope I can fix it.

One glove down... no more to follow?

I've had a nightmare with this. I have totally chosen the wrong yarn or have been crocheting too tightly. I had to add several more rows to the pattern and even now it’s a tight squeeze on my hand and I can barely move my fingers in it! Might just frog this and try again.

Crochet and Knitting for November

I've started a new crochet project - a pair of fingerless gloves for me to wear in the office over winter. It does get cold in here!!

About half way through the first glove. Going well but doesn't look too much yet.

Secondly, I went to my first craft night with some fellow crafty pals and was taught how to knit! I didn't do very well but with a little help managed to produce this cute flower that I plan to make into a pin.

Onwards with the yarn craft!!

Sparrow - WIP 1

My dad has asked for a drawing for Christmas this year instead of a bought gift. This photo was one I found a long time ago and wanted to draw, so I thought it would be a great reference,

Here's my line drawing ready for coloured pencil to begin!

The reference, by the wonderful Dave Slaughter, can be found on WetCanvas here.

Radishes - WIP3

Nearly done withthis. Not entirely happy with the darker reds. I think I went a bit mad with the blue, but it's a nice and vibrant piece so far which is a little different for me.

Radishes - WIP 2

Started work on the reds now and am worried I've gone too vibrant. The reference photo is very "red" too, but aren't radishes in real life more pink?

My work as compared to original photo:

Monthly CP Challenge - Sept 11 - Radishes

Trying to gee myself up to doing art regularly and fancied a small challenge.

Radishes ACEO size in prismas.

Hoping to get this finished by the end of the month.

Iris - WIP 1

Start of a new project - beautiful blue and white irises drizzled in raindrops.
Not really drawn a lot of flowers, especially in CP, but looking forward to this!

Monday, September 12, 2011

I have taken the plunge and bought a more upmarket support for my work - an A4 pad of Bristol Board.

I have never used such a smooth paper before but I've heard so many great things about it in terms of graphite and coloured pencils that I thought I'd give it a go.
It wasn't cheap so I hope it's worth it!!

Thom WIP2

Little bit more done. Really struggling with his nose (I HATE NOSES!) and the shape of his face, but I do see a little bit of a likeness.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Thom WIP1

A new drawing. Literally only spent 5 mins on it so far. Hoping it will actually look like who it's supposed to be this time!

Rommey Commission Finished

Very pleased with how this turned out. I hope I have captured a little of her personality as well as her good looks!!

Fassy - Finished?

(terrible photo quality - sorry!)

All done in 2B pencil on cartridge paper.

Rommey - Commission WIP 4

Slow progress but happy so far. She is so pretty.

Rommey - Commission WIP 3

She's really taking shape now, and I'm really enjoying this (watching Star Wars while drawing always helps!).

Some close ups below for detail. Again, apologies for the bad quality photos.

Rommey - Commission WIP 2

I've been really busy so I haven't had much time to work on this, but last night I did some of her muzzle area and her nose. I'm having some issues with the size of her eye on the left and the white whiskers on her lips. Much more work to be done!!

Fassy WIP 3

I've started on the beard now. I have never drawn a beard before. why did I decide this was a good chance to start???

Sorry for the poor photo quality. When it is finished I will scan it properly.

Fassy WIP 2

I think I have fixed his eyes. Not much else done on this and it doesn't look anything like him but never mind!!

Rommey - Commission WIP 1

My friends have a beautiful boxer called Rommey, and I thought she would make a lovely subject for a CP drawing.

So here is my preliminary sketch and the first bit of colouring. A long way to go but I'm looking forward to this one. I love Rommey very much and I will happily spend hours studying her photo!

Annoying!

I've just realised that I've put his eyes too close together!! I really hope I can salvage this as it's going quite well.

Fassy WIP 1

I have been a little obsessed with Michael Fassbender, star of Hunger and X Men: First Class, and he has incredible eyes and bone structure, so I am attempting to draw him.

Not much done so far, but I'm hoping to get some resemblence.

This is the reference pic. Wish me luck with this one!

Another super quick sketch

This time in 15 mins and pencil (soooo much happier in pencil!)

Much more pleased with it. I think the facial proportions came out ok.
Again, doesn't look like who it's supposed to but never mind!!

I think I've forgotten how to draw

It's been months. There has been no time and no inspiration. But today I forced myself to spend 5 mins on a silly sketch to try and get the creative juices going.

Not a big achievement, and it looks nothing like the reference, but it's something on paper for the first time in what feels like forever.

I'm hoping for more this weekend.

Duckling WIP 5

I went a bit crazy with the reflections in the water - I think doing this while watching and singing along to The Blues Brothers may have been a bad combination!!

It's made me realise I need to work more on the duckling himself to make him zing a bit more. Will this ever be finished??

Rose - Finished

Here's what I'm saying is the finished piece for my Rose drawing. Not entirely happy with the blending of the petals or the background, but it does have a very soft feel to it, and it looks almost like a tattoo.

However, it was a learning curve, and the result isn't as bad as I anticipated.

Duckling WIP4

I spent some time on this last night. I am now quite happy with the body and am moving onto the water. I'm not happy with the way he seems to have a halo around him when his feathers meet the water but I'll try my very best to fix that.

I have never attempted water with reflections in CP before and I admit I'm a little daunted. I hope it turns out ok!

please note the camera has altered the colours somewhat.

Rose - WIP 2

A lot more pencil down but I really don't like the softness of it. It's almost as if it's not substantial, like a ghost almost.
I will persevere but I may not do much more blending in future and stick to my messier way of shading!!

Attempts at Blending

As something little to do between spurts at my CP Duckling, I thought I'd have a proper go at blending with stumps in graphite on a simple subject - a rose.

Having never drawn a rose before I did find its anatomy somewhat difficult and I can't say I'm very pleased with the way the pencil is laying down and blending at the moment. But it's early days and I hope to finish this over the weekend.

Duckling Update

Bit more done on this. Trying desperately to get the tones right as well as maintaining a look of fluffiness.

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

There once was an ugly duckling...

What I've been working on today during my day off sick.

Prismacolors on fine grain cartridge paper. I hope I can finish this off. It has taken me ages so far.

Red

My first real attempt at digital painting. A mixture of paths, and straight brush work all on Photoshop CS with a Wacom tablet. About 3 hours work.

I'm pretty pleased with it. I never want things to look too polished so I think this turned out alright.

I can't for the life of me remember where I got the reference from, so if you recognise it please let me know so I can credit.

Cutie WIP

Line art for a new doggie drawing. I am actually thinking of trying this digitally but I might be too frightened.
This might also be used in a new short my husband is making, which is exciting news.

Red Eye

A little red eyed tree frog in soft pastels.

I still don't think I'm that proficient in pastels, especially the pencils to bring out the details. I end up just smudging them everywhere!
But I'm really pleased with this little fellow. Maybe more pastel drawings to come!

Danielle Ward

A quick portrait of one of my favourite comediennes, Danielle Ward. About an hour in mostly HB and 3B pencil.
I know I messed up the chin and the lips to some extent but I am happy you can see a resemblence.
Reference here.

Baby Sketch

Another quick unfinished sketch. About 20 mins work. I have never drawn a baby before so getting the proportions right is a real challenge.
May work more on this as I like the eyes so far.

Andrew

Sketch done in 15 mins. Part of my aim to do something arty every day, not spend ages on finishing it, and no procrastination.

Love Birds

Two little felt love birds, about 3 inches tall.
Very pleased with these. I will make more.
