Squirrel ACEO - WIP 2

A little update. After seeking advive at the wonderful WetCanvas, I have continued with the squirrel's body and face and am pretty pleased with the result. I think he's pretty much finished now. Now just to tackle that background....

Squirrel ACEO - WIP 1

So, I'm trying to keep up the drawing, but my busy life isn't letting me so far...

I started this little guy the other day and it's not going too badly.

Haven't got a clue what to do with the background. Gotta keep on going with this one....

Black Cala Lily

This is taken from the Wet Canvas September Coloured Pencil Challenge. I couldn't resist the reference photo - it was so beautiful.

This has been my first real attempt at flowers with coloured pencil but I am really happy with how it turned out. Hopefully I managed to capture the proper sheen of the petals well enough.

About 4 hours in total. All Prismas.

Daniel Radcliffe - Finished!

hurrah! I have just finished my portrait of Daniel Radcliffe and am very pleased with it indeed. There are a few things that are slightly off with it - such as his eyes are slightly too close together - but overall, I think it's the best portrait I've done for donkey's.

Simply pencil on cartridge paper. Should perhaps be a little darker but that's about as dark as I could get it with my cheap pencils!!

Peppy Portrait Finished!!

I finished this last night. I am really quite pleased with it.

I had a bit of trouble with his head as the picture wasn't too clear, but I think I rescued it okay.

Let's hope his mummy likes him!

Peppy Portrait Step 4

Well, most of his lower half done now. Really it's just his pretty little head and a bit of tidying up to do.

I am so pleased with how this is turning out!

Peppy Commission Step 3

Bit more work done on his body again. It's turned out to be a lot harder than I thought to capture the plucked effect of his torso, especially as I have chosen to do it on quite rough cartridge paper so I can't get rid of all the white patches in the grain. Oh well...

I have also started on the feathers. I love the green against the pink.

Peppy Commission Step 2

Bit more done on his little pink body. Worried ts gone a little purple here but that's how the reference pic is.

Peppy Commission Step 1

I have finally made a start on my commission of a lovely ladies pet parrot Peppy. Bless him - he's had a really hard life and used to pull his feathers out in distress, so he looks a little odd and like a plucked chicken, but his little face is gorgeous.

I hope I can do him justice!

Prismas on heavy weight cartridge paper: Not much to see at the moment but the shape is there!

At last! Drawing again!

It's been so long and I'm so out of practice. And of course, here's another new piece that isn't finished. I hope I do actually finish this one...

Pencil on acid free cartridge paper. I won't tell you who it's of, just in case it all goes pear shaped. But I am so so very pleased with it so far. I think this may turn out good.....

Tiger ACEO - Unfinished

Well well well! A picture I'm working on that I'm actually pleased with???

I started this when I was off work sick, and it's still not finished. I've lost my drawing mojo and don't want to rush it in case I ruin what I've done, so I thought I'd post it unfinished.

Prismas on card. 2.5 x 3.5.

Motherhood ACEO

Ugh, not been getting back in the rhythm of drawing at all recently.

Here's a little quick ACEO I knocked up the other day. Prismas onto card stock.

Not overly pleased but at least it's something finished. At least I love the subject matter, just wish I could have made the baby penguin look a bit better...

Practice with Heads!

I haven't done any drawing for absolutely ages. Just haven't felt like it or had the urge to do it. No inspiration at all. Which is very naughty I know because it just means I'm getting out of practice and fall deeper and deeper into depreciation of myself and my talent, so it's a vicious circle.

Today I forced myself to take two of the books my boyfriend bought me for Christmas, and using them created a face on portrait of a young man, completely from my imagination.

The point of this exercise was to practice the proportions of the head, something I've always had terrible trouble with. So keeping the measurements in mind, I just made up a face.

I think it turned out ok. It's certainly a lot better than some of my previous efforts!
Now I just need to get back in the whole swing of drawing again before I become more disheartened....

Monthly CP Challenge - Jan 07

Every month WetCanvas! Coloured Pencil Forum runs a drawing challenge. There are always two subject - a beginners piece and a more experienced piece.

This month I tried out the beginners piece - a simple banana.

Prismas on cartridge paper/ Pretty pleased with how it turned out (although the colours on the scan don't match those of the original drawing at all.)

Butterfly

At last! I have actually done another drawing! It feels like an age since I finished Jarvis and I haven't picked up a pencil since.

So here it is - my first piece of art for 2007 - a tiger longwing butterfly.

Prismas on orange Fabriano Tiziano paper. (My first drawing on colured paper).
Dead chuffed!
