Odd One Out ACEO - WIP

Here is my latest project - not quite finished yet though!

I started it over a week ago in the run up to Hallowe'en but now it's the 30th and I'm still going! lol!

Had a bit of a mental block on the orange pumpkins in it, but have sought advice from WetCanvas and want to have it finished by the end of the week!

First Sale Complete!

I received a message from the buyer of my first ACEO sale this morning saying that he had received the card and he was very pleased, and he had dutifully left me positive feedback!

Hopefully having positive feedback might encourage more people to buy my work from Etsy.

Now I just need to make a load of cards to sell and get my shop noticed more. I just don't seem to get the time....

Dreamscape ACEO

Something a little different from me that I finished last night.

A dreamy landscape - Prismacolor on card stock, ACEO size.

Copied from a photo but I think it's got a real fuzzy dreamy quality about it.
I just love the colours.

Number Crunching Screening

On Saturday, I went to a special screening (ok, so it was in my friend's house and nowhere posh) of the film I worked as production designer on last year - Number Crunching.

It has turned out really well and I am really pleased for Kev (my boyfriend and also writer/director of the film). With a budget of only £50.00, he's managed to produce something quite unique!

Also got to see the rough cut of our latest film, The Brain of Dr Strom, on DVD at home. Almost burst with pride at how fabulous all my props and art direction look in it, even though it's not in online quality yet, and how good it should be once the sound and music are added professionally.

It feels so good to be part of something so creative as this, even though only in a relatively small capacity.

Cat's Eye - WIP

This is what I'm currently working on - a practice run of a cat's eye.

A good friend of mine in Australia has commissioned me to draw her cat, Jarvis, and having had no experience of drawing cats in coloured pencil before I thought I ought to practice a little first!

Pretty pleased with the eye itself, but having trouble with the fur. Hopefully practice will make perfect!

Liberty ACEO

Well here he is, finished and looking rather regal I think!

I can't say I'm 110% happy with the way parts of him turned out (I still have issues with his beak and his eye), but overall I am pleased with it.

Did manage however to spray far too much fixative on him and he's gone a bit floppy! When I finally do sell him I think I'm going to have to mount it on some sturdier card!

Kev said that it's his favourite drawing I've ever done which made me blush a little.

Working on new ACEO

This is the start of my latest ACEO - another bird. This time a Bald Eagle.

It's the first one I've tried with my new Prismas, and I'm having a few issues with the blending of the pencils as they are so different to the cheaper ones I was using! The lovely people on WetCanvas are offering me plenty of advice on how to improve on this!

Also, I'm a bit stuck now because I need a grey pencil for the feathers and I don't have one!! All I have is black or silver! Argh! I'll have to get to an art shop and buy a grey Polychromos or something to use in the meantime!

Weekly Drawing Thread Oct 8-15 2006

Really really enjoyed the challenge this week as the reference picture had so much character.

I croppped it right down from a picture of two people on a bench to just the woman's face because I thought she was beautiful.

Drawn on the train to and from Cornwall at the weekend! about 3 and a half hours in pencil.

An Unfinished Sketch and a Bad Painting!

Well, I just wasn't feeling it this weekend just gone. I tried to force myself to do some art, and what came out didn't please me in the slightest but I thought I'd post it here so that when I do something good I can look back and see the progression!

First up - an acrylic ACEO of a bee on a flower.

It took me aaages to do the petals on the flower because in the original photo the flower was yellow, and I felt I needed to change it or the picture would be far too yellow and the bee wouldn't stand out.
The bee itself was difficult. I couldn't get him looking fuzzy no matter how small a brush I used. And his eyes - well they just look awful. Absolutely awful!

I think I'll be going back over this one seeing if I can improve on it.

Secondly - Tony Soprano.

Bit more promising this one. And inspired by watching 7 hours of The Sopranos straight!

I've definately got the bottom half of his face right, just something about the eyes isn't quite there... More work needed I think.

So all in all, not that great a weekend. I think it is blatantly clear that my acrylic painting in miniature needs a hell of a lot of work, and my portraits of famous people do too.
Oh well.

Weekly Drawing Thread Oct 2-8 2006

I didn't actually finish the challenge last week. I just didn't seem to have the time and the energy which is a real shame considering the wonderful, very "me", subject matter.

So here is my unfinished sparrow in the snow. Hopefully sometime in the future I'll be able to sit down and give it the attention it deserves and do it properly.

A New Chapter?

I received my first set of actual professional artist quality pencils today. A lovely unopened tin of 48 Prismacolors. I got them for quite a decent price as well, and the lovely man who I bought them from has thrown in a random set of 15 different pencils too, including some Sanford Verithins!

The reason I've bought these is so that I can finally make some ACEO's that will be of a good enough standard to sell. Although I am very proud of the ones I have made so far, I would be worried to sell them as the quality might not be quite right for someone paying money.

So, now I am armed with decent acid-free card and Prismas I can create without being worried about the quality. I just need to make sure that I do a good enough job!
I need to create a fairly decent sized batch to start with, and make sure I maintain enough to sell so I maintain a presence in the market.

I have opened a new eBay account ready to go, and an Etsy account as a back up should they not sell on eBay. It's so good that they stay listed on Etsy for 6 months at a fixed price instead of a short period with an auction. Hopefully they will sell at one or the other.

Let's just hope that I can come up with the goods and get going!!

ACEO - Slumber

I am over the moon with this one.

A sleeping lion cub in the grass, looking absolutely adorable if I do say so myself!

Coloured pencil on card stock.

Had some trouble with the grass and ruined it slightly by putting a blade of grass across his nose which wouldn't erase no matter how hard I tried, but overall I'm so very happy with it.

Wonder if someone will buy it?
